My Son

Your face is peace personified,
Your touch could rival silk;
Your skin smells of mildest soap,
Your breath of sweetest milk.

A tear in your eye is a pain in my heart,
Your smile is my greatest joy.
An hour passes in an instant,
When I hold you in my arms, sweet boy.

Your eyes reflect your Daddy,
Your nose resembles me;
When I look upon your innocent face,
Heaven's touch is all I see.

Your sweet embrace is life's reward,
My gift from God above.
He blessed me with your life on earth,
To show me greatest love.

I will trust in God with every day,
And I'll teach you to believe.
For only by His guiding light
Will fulfillment you achieve.

You are my child brought forth by love;
My beloved, my heart, my precious one.
I promise to teach, protect, and love you
For all of my life, my son.
