My Dearest Jack, In only a short while you will have a baby brother. While I cannot wait to watch you embark on this new journey, I am compelled to write and tell you how much the last year and a half with only you has changed my life. Words cannot express how deeply in love with you I am. It is natural for a mother to love her child, but I am overwhelmed with the fullness I feel when reviewing your short life. I swell with pride at the thought of your kindness, sweet spirit, and joyful soul. The Lord already dwells within you, because such goodness could only come from Him. Your Daddy and I try daily to do our best for you, and in return you never disappoint. We may never clearly remember what our lives were like with only one child, so I'd like to share some of my favorite things about you:
1. I love to watch you care for animals. You love to hug Crockett and feed him food. You are often the first to notice if his water or food bowls become empty. He thanks you too.
2. I love that you are such a big helper. You always want to put away dishes from the dishwasher, help Mommy out of a chair by pulling her fingers with all of your might, water the plants on the front porch with your watering can, and match shoes in Daddy's closet.
3. I love that you are a cuddle bug. Even while living your very busy life, you still love to cuddle up with Mommy and Daddy in bed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I love how you tuck into us to read a book, drink your milk, or play with our fingers. I hope that I will always remember the precious feeling of your tiny fingers digging at my nails. Even as I type this very blog you are grasping my left thumb and resting your warm head against my chest. You actually smell of milk and honey because you got into Mommy's lotion.
4. I love that you smell flowers, tickle belly buttons, splash in the bathtub, babble on the phone, recognize family members in pictures, read books instead of watching t.v., wave bye bye to birds and airplanes, blow kisses, and always greet Mommy and Daddy with a cheesy grin and a big hug.
5. I love how you run everywhere you go. It's as if you don't want to waste a moment of life lingering in the back. You want to be in the forefront of all the action. I hope that this characteristic stays with you for life.
Jack, I love you from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. I know that next year I will have a million more things that I love about the kind of big brother you are going to be. You are already so loving and giving. It's wonderful that I can hope for your brother to be just like you. I can't wait to meet little James, but I have a hint of sadness that my time will be divided. You may not always get every ounce of my attention, but know that my love for you will never diminish. You made me a Mommy, and for that I will always be grateful. Because of you I further understand the depth of God's love for us....how could he sacrifice His purest form of joy if not because of how deeply he loved us? I will always pray that you find comfort in His house, joy in His creation, safety in His arms, and favor in His eyes. I will carry you in my heart wherever I go, and you will never be out of my mind. Thank you for all that you have given me. I love you always and forever. Mommy
